>> PAVLOK - MOTIVATIONAL WRIST BAND WITH CONSEQUENCES

This is one for those suckers-for-punishment who like to inflict pain for self-improvement.

Watching BBC Click on a recent trip I saw a presenter take it on himself to test out the Pavlok wrist band; a personal coach that utilizes electric shocks, vibration and alerts to break bad habits and push you to stay on track with your personal goals. Facebook? bzzzt.

In addition to being a mobile zapper for pain - it has as a number of sensors to track activities and movement in addition a backend for integrating into social networks or other web services that wish to use positive and negative feedback to get users to stick to them.

At least; you can always decide to take it off.

Not so fast! The company wants users to be accountable for their actions - not just focus on willpower to get things done. There are two sides to the program; one is to gain rewards for achieving your goals; or, if you bail and do not fulfill your goals - you will be penalized financially, lose access to your phone or suffer an electric shock.

Studies show that combing commitments and accountability skyrockets your chance of success - up to 80%!

While the indiegogo.com campaign is over - you can still get an order in place, simply visit the page and follow their promotional link using their code. I could see this as a great motivational pusher between friends - especially if you could inflict pain on each other (evil friends); not sure how I would feel about strangers being able to do the same however.
